Pain Diseases and Conditions We Treat

Head and Neck Pain

  • Cervical Myelopathy. Damage to the spinal cord in the neck, which can cause pain, muscle weakness, and problems with fine motor control
  •  
  • Cervicogenic headache. A pain typically beginning at the base of the neck and moving to the head, thought to be caused by irritation in the cervical spine
  •  
  • Migraine Headache. A severe recurring headache that could include visual disturbances and light sensitivity, and disrupt one's ability to function
  •  
  • Occipital Neuralgia. A headache that involves "throbbing" or "piercing" pain in the back of the head and upper neck
  •  
  • Tension Headache. A headache linked to stress and muscle contraction involving a steady pain and pressure
  •  
  • Torticollis. The chronic, involuntary contraction of the neck muscles, causing the head to turn to one side, which results in pain and stiffness
  •  
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia. A chronic condition causing an intense, episodic, shock-like pain in the face

Back Pain

  • Degenerative Disc Disease. Wear and tear of the discs that cushion the vertebrae, resulting in pain in the back, buttocks, thighs, or neck that could worsen when sitting or bending

  • Herniated Disc. A condition in which the discs that cushion the vertebrae bulge, potentially causing pain and numbness in the neck or lower back, as well as the arms or legs
  •  
  • Post Laminectomy Syndrome (Failed Back Syndrome). Persistent pain in the back and / or legs that may occur after spine surgery
  •  
  • Sacroiliac Joint Pain. Discomfort in the sacroiliac joint (which connects the spine to the pelvis) that could be caused by conditions including osteoarthritis and trauma
  •  
  • Spinal Stenosis. A condition in which the spinal canal narrows, pinching the nerve roots and spinal cord and causing symptoms such as pain or weakness in the legs and thighs
  •  
  • Spondylolysis. A painful stress fracture in a vertebra in the lower back, which could lead to Spondylolisthesis, a more serious condition in which the affected vertebra slips out of place
  •  
  • Vertebral Fracture. A break in a vertebra, which could cause pain in the lower back

Arm and Hand Pain

  • Calcific Tendonitis of the Shoulder. The gradual formation of calcium deposits in the tendons of the shoulder, resulting in painful inflammation and stiffness
  •  
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A compression of the median nerve (which runs through the carpal tunnel in the wrist to provide sensation to the fingers), resulting in pain or numbness in the hand
  •  
  • Frozen Shoulder. A tightening of the shoulder joint, which results in pain and loss of movement
  •  
  • Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis). An overuse injury involving pain over the medial epicondyle bone, located on the inner side of the elbow
  •  
  • Shoulder Sprain. A stretching or partial tearing of the ligaments supporting the shoulder, which causes pain and swelling and limits motion
  •  
  • Shoulder Tendinopathy. An injury to the tendons in the shoulder, causing pain and swelling and limiting motion
  •  
  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis). An overuse injury involving pain over the lateral epicondyle bone, located on the outside of the elbow
  •  
  • Wrist Sprain. A stretching or tearing of the ligaments supporting the wrist, which causes pain and swelling and limits motion

Leg and Foot Pain

  • Ankle Sprain. A partial or complete tear of the ligaments supporting the ankle, resulting in pain and swelling and limiting motion
  •  
  • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. Pain under the kneecap that usually occurs during exercise or movement, and could be accompanied by swelling or popping and grinding sounds
  •  
  • Sciatica (Lumbar radiculopathy). An irritation of the sciatic nerves (which run down the back of each thigh), causing shooting pain and sometimes numbness down one leg

Chest and Abdominal Pain

  • Costochondritis. A localized pain felt in the front chest wall where the bone of the rib meets the cartilage
  •  
  • Pelvic Pain. A chronic condition lasting six months or more caused by problems in areas such as the intestines, bladder, or reproductive organs
  •  
  • Post Thoracotomy (or Video-Assisted Thoracoscopy – VATS) Pain. Persistent sharp, shooting, stabbing, or burning pain in the upper back, ribs, or chest after chest surgery
  •  
  • Post Mastectomy Pain. Persistent sharp, shooting, stabbing, or burning pain in the chest or ribs after breast surgery
  •  
  • Post Hernia Repair Pain. Sharp, shooting, stabbing, or burning pain in the lower abdomen with radiation to the groin area

General Body Pains

 

  • Cancer Pain Syndromes. Any pain experienced by a cancer patient, which could result from a tumor (which can press on bones, nerves, or organs), therapy (such as radiation and chemotherapy), or co-occurring conditions (such as arthritis)
  •  
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. A painful condition affecting the nerves and blood vessels of one or more extremities, accompanied by swelling, discoloration, and burning sensations
  •  
  • Diabetic Neuropathy. A nerve damage condition associated with diabetes that causes symptoms such as pain and numbness in the extremities, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and dizziness
  •  
  • Muscle Strain. A partial tear in the internal structure of a muscle, which could cause symptoms including soreness, swelling, and bruising
  •  
  • Phantom Limb Syndrome. The perception of sensations (including pain) in a limb that has been amputated
  •  
  • Tendinopathy. Any injury to the tendons, which could include tendinitis (inflammation of the tendon) and tendinosis (micro tears in the tendon tissue), and causes pain and swelling
